A few years ago I had the privilege of touring the most recent home redesigned by Jean Stoffer. If you’re not familiar with jean and you’re a fan of home design you are missing out. She has a show on the Magnolia network titled called The Established Home where she takes you along on her different home design projects. Jean has a eye for classic design and functionality with a specialty in kitchen and bath renovations. The particular home I toured was a full remodel project that she took on and incorporated her hole family.
Come along and I’ll show you some of my favorite details of the home, both old and new. Jean didn’t miss a detail, including choosing to keep the stunning entryway flooring. This floor is a stunning welcome as you walk through the front door.
They did a major swap by moving the kitchen to the original living room. Which was a little tricky because there was no electrical on the exterior walls. And to keep the integrity of the home any appliances needed to stay on the interior walls. The two major statements in the kitchen we are range alcove and the original fireplace that sat adjacent to each other.
They moved the family room to the back of the house. After removing walls that had initially been 6 different rooms it left one large stunning space that is beautiful and cozy. It was the perfect combination for everyday life and entertaining. They mimicked the flooring in the vestibule but on a larger scale with the grey and cream checkered tile.
The time they took to replicate the moulding that had to be removed was not lost. It’s virtually impossible to tell the new moulding from the original. Millwork like this has become almost obsolete in homes built in the past few decades. It’s details like this that bring personality and character to otherwise boring and dull homes.
I hope you’re enjoying this photo by photo tour but we’ve only just begun. You can find part two and the second floor of this tour here.
