Complete List of Garden Essentials

We’ve lived in this home for just about 3 years, and when I tell you that I’ve been at a loss of what to do in our yard at this home that is NO exaggeration! At our last home I had all the dreams and visions for what I wanted the yard to be. I saw flower gardens and veggie, fruits and flower boxes. We had put years of work into that yard and it was all starting to come together. And then we moved and I was completely stumped!

I didn’t know where lot lines where and why my yard stared and the neighbors began. On one side of the yard we had a flower garden that transitioned right into the neighbors flower garden. I didn’t know if I had weeds or flowers growing and I didn’t know what was her’s from mine. On the other side of the yard we have a retaining wall that is about 2 inches from our lot line. Oh dear! And then where was the ground cover, OH SO MUCH GROUND COVER! I hate most ground cover.

So our first task was to actually figure out where our yard stopped and the neighbors began. Second, remove the ground cover and get some grass growing. Then my sweet husband started asking, when are you going to start planting flowers? I felt so uninspired and overwhelmed! But I’m slowly, 2.5 years later, coming out of that and dreaming about the beautiful English garden we’re going to have back here. I love English gardens, the way everything is full and unstructured. If you missed it, you can see some of the inspiration for our yard here.

But as with anything, you need the right tools to do the job. So items we’re had for a while, others we were able to buy from the previous owner of this home. But we’re still also picking up items along the way as we need them, or as we discover yard tools I never even knew existed! Like this nifty dibber seed tool! I’ve begun compiling a list of all our favorite yard/garden tools and resources. You might even want to save this post as I’ll continue to update it when I find new items worth recommending!
