A few years back I created this dried holiday garland and I’m excited to say that it’s still going strong looking great and spelling delicious. Dried garland is a timeless tradition that is really popular right now and isn’t a fad that will be going anywhere anytime soon.
I started with a bowl of oranges and slices them in about 1/4 inch think. Leave the peal on, just slice the oranges as they are. I discarded the two end slices then placed them in a single layer of parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Set your oven to 200 degrees and bake for 4 hours.
If you had a food dehydrator you could use that also. One of the perks of this simple garland is that it leaves your home smelling delicious! Since it really is so easy you could do this before company comes over, they will think you’ve been baking treats all day long!
After about 2 hours flip over your oranges and let them bake on the opposite side for the remaining time. When time is done they should look dry with no signs of being wet or tacky. Remove them from the oven and set them aside to cool.
Once the cooled I used twine to string them together. You can simply use your finger to push the twin thru the orange slice. I also had some cinnamon sticks, so I alternated between the oranges and the cinnamon sticks, I just wrapped the twin around each cinnamon stick and few times then tide a single knot to hold them in place.
I also had a strand of red beads, so I layered the two together to complete the look. I’ve also seen the orange garland layed over a green swag and they look lovely and very festive.
Like I mentioned before, I actually made this garland a few years ago. It’s still going strong. I love that I can have something that feels fresh but I don’t have to make year after year if I don’t want to.
I wrote a *FREE* book just for you. I’ve compiled the 17 most asked design questions I hear and put them in a book. From what kind of paint to use, to what size rug you should buy. This little book is a BIG value, grab yours here!
